Synopsis of Lethal Foes of Spider-Man (1993)
Lethal Foes of Spider-Man is a 1993 Marvel Comics limited series written by Danny Fingeroth, with art by Scott McDaniel, Brad Vancata, and Dave Sampson. It follows a storyline where Doctor Octopus (Otto Octavius) is set to unleash a devastating plan on New York City, and Spider-Man must stop him before it’s too late.
Plot Overview
The series opens with Doctor Octopus in prison at the Vault, his adamantium mechanical arms destroyed in an explosion thousands of miles away. The destruction is witnessed by Peter Parker, who is photographing the event for the Daily Bugle. His lawyer, Michael Gerdes, protests the destruction as a violation of Octavius’s civil rights, but the legal battle has already been exhausted in all courts.
Despite the loss of his arms, Octavius vows revenge. The story then shifts to Ryker’s Island, where Spider-Man and allies confront a group of villains — including Rhino, Vulture, Hardshell, and members of the Sinister Syndicate — in a chaotic battle. The Syndicate’s leader, Boomerang, is revealed to be working for Octavius, who is secretly planning to use a Molecular Rearranger to rebuild his arms and gain even greater power
The narrative also includes flashbacks and cameos from other Spider-Man foes such as Kingpin, Richard Fisk, and Elias Hargrove (first appearance), as well as references to Hydra, the Beetle, and other villains
